14 Mar High School Service Day
At the end of February, high school students spent the day volunteering in the community for Service Project Day. Each grade served at a different local nonprofit organization, meeting real needs in our community.
Ninth-grade students attended The Fruitful Field, where they worked in the community garden and helped provide fresh produce to needy families. Students mulched and weeded five fields and painted garden equipment for the community garden. They also served at Hope South Florida by preparing 200 sandwiches and 200 hygiene bags to distribute to the homeless community. They served 225 individuals a hot meal and sorted 150 pounds of nonperishable items for the pantry.
Tenth-grade students served HomesUnited by cleaning, painting, and landscaping six homes for previously displaced or homeless residents. In addition, six sets of household cleaning supplies and nonperishable items were donated to each residence through Key Club, Rotary Interact, and Green Club members.
Eleventh-grade students served 4Kids (Foster Care Agency) by cleaning and outdoor maintenance of three foster family homes. NHS members raised $1,000 in gift cards to bless these three foster families. Students also prepared 150 goodie bags for foster children to enjoy at 4Kids events in Broward County.
Our Seniors served at CROS Ministries. Their teamwork gleaned 3,000 pounds of fresh produce to serve the hungry at our local food banks.
Opportunities to serve nonprofits in our community impact our students and help them recognize that all they have been given is a gift from God. Being grateful in attitude and generous in action prepares students for the next chapter as compassionate contributors.
