11 Feb Upper School Equip Families with a College Planning Evening
Last week, we welcomed students and parents to a College Planning Evening designed to provide essential guidance on advanced coursework and the college admissions process. With a strong commitment to academic excellence and preparation, the event featured two informative sessions aimed at equipping families with the knowledge and tools necessary for success in their journey toward college.
Session 1: AP and Dual Enrollment
Students interested in taking Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment courses had the opportunity to hear directly from Westminster Academy faculty about course offerings, expectations, and prerequisites. Attendees explored the rigorous academic challenges of these programs and gained insight into how they can enhance their college readiness. Westminster Academy offers 23 AP courses and 8 Dual Enrollment courses, providing students with a variety of options to challenge themselves and earn potential college credit. Families were provided valuable information on the benefits of AP and Dual Enrollment classes, including their impact on GPA, college applications, and potential college credit. This session served as a key resource for students seeking to take on academic challenges that align with their future college and career aspirations.
Session 2: College Planning
The second session of the evening focused on the broader college admissions journey. A brief presentation covered crucial topics such as GPA calculations, SAT and ACT testing, Bright Futures scholarships, and college application types. Parents and students gained clarity on the steps necessary to navigate the college admissions landscape successfully. Following the presentation, an open Q&A session allowed families to ask specific questions and receive expert guidance tailored to their needs.
Westminster Academy remains dedicated to equipping students for college and beyond, ensuring that each student is prepared to excel academically while maintaining a biblical worldview. Events like this College Planning Evening reflect the school’s mission to foster academic achievement, integrity, and lifelong learning in every student.
