Lower School Technology Teacher
Position Overview
The Lower School Technology Teacher at our Westminster Academy is a vital part of our educational community, responsible for inspiring and educating students in PK4 through grade 3 in the areas of technology and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). This role focuses on developing primary coding skills and fostering design thinking. The ideal candidate will have a deep love for the Lord, a passion for technology, and a dedication to nurturing young learners.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Instruction:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive technology and STEAM curriculum tailored for students from PK4 through grade 3.
- Teach foundational coding skills and concepts, encouraging students to apply these in various projects.
- Integrate design thinking principles into lessons to enhance problem-solving and creative thinking abilities.
- Utilize diverse teaching methods and technological tools to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Faith Integration:
- Incorporate Christian values and biblical principles into the curriculum and classroom activities.
- Model a Christ-centered life, fostering a spiritual environment that encourages students’ faith and character development.
- Encourage students to see the connection between their faith and the use of technology and STEAM disciplines.
Student Engagement and Support
- Create an engaging, interactive, and faith-based learning environment that nurtures a love for technology and STEAM subjects.
- Provide individual and group support, ensuring all students understand and can apply new concepts.
- Promote a growth mindset, resilience, and a spirit of exploration and experimentation among students.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work collaboratively with fellow teachers and staff to integrate technology and STEAM activities across the curriculum.
- Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and classroom activities, emphasizing the integration of faith and learning.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to remain updated on the latest trends and best practices in educational technology and STEAM education.
Classroom Management
- Maintain a positive, faith-based classroom environment that supports the emotional and social development of young learners.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning space.
- Uphold school policies and procedures, fostering a respectful and orderly classroom atmosphere.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Technology, or a related field is required
- Possess and model a growing relationship with Jesus Christ
- Demonstrate trustworthy commitment to WA in fulfilling its Mission and Vision
- A deep love for technology, teaching, and nurturing young students
- Proficiency in technology and an understanding of design thinking methodologies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to design engaging and imaginative lessons that inspire young learners
- Willingness to work collaboratively with other educators to enhance the overall learning experience
- Serve wholeheartedly as an exceptional teammate
