Congratulations to Ivan Salomon on his commitment to play basketball at Warner University! We’re very proud of Ivan for his hard work and dedication to the WA Basketball program! Ivan is the sixteenth student-athlete of the Class of 2024 to sign a National Letter of Intent to play at the next level.
Track and Field: The WA Track and Field program was well represented at the State Meet in Jacksonville at the University of North Florida on Wednesday, May 15. There were a number of medalists. The top 8 places medal and are All-State finishers. Congratulations to all of our state competitors and medalists!
- Junior Jonathan Peña led the way for the Lions with a 2nd place finish in the 1600 with a school record of 4:18.
- DJ Wimbley placed 4th in the High Jump with a jump of 6-1 and barely missed at the next height.
- The 4×800 relay team of Tanner Pritchard, Jonah Nowicki, Tyler Pritchard, and Jonathan Peña placed 7th with a time of 8:09.
- David Harvin II, the last qualifier in the 110 Hurdles, won the first heat with a major PR of 15.51, which got him 8th place. He also finished 10th in the 400 Hurdles with a PR of 57.97.
- In the 3200, Jonathan Peña finished 11th, and Tanner Pritchard placed 16th.
- On the ladies’ side, Claire Chanon finished 8th in a last-step lean at the line to medal with a time of 5:21.
- The girls’ 4×800 team of Claire Chanon, Mia Kostelidis, Eugenia Fantoni, and Noelle Richardson finished 15th in a season-best time of 10:14.
- The Ladies’ 4×100 team of Sophia Elmer, Abigail Quinn, Skylar Freas, and Markeli Jones-Tynes finished 10th with a season-best time of 50.35.
- Sophia Elmer tied for 13th in the High Jump.
- The men’s team tied for 15th with 16 points.
Baseball: The Lions Baseball team made it to the Regional Semifinals this season, accumulated 15 wins and also won the 2024 HSBN March Madness Shootout tournament. Congratulations to senior Julian Irizarry, WA Baseball’s “Modern Day Era” All-Time Hits Leader. He ended his high school campaign with 125 career hits.
Softball: The Lions Softball team captured their fourth consecutive District title this season, finishing with a 19-9 record and making it to the Regional Semifinal game. The season was highlighted with memorable big victories, in particular, the extra-inning battles against St. Thomas Aquinas, Cardinal Gibbons, and Seminole Ridge High School.
Ladies’ Tennis: The Ladies’ Tennis team was District Champions and finished with a 7-win season, and the Men’s team finished with 5 wins. Individual State Qualifiers: Lexie Bursa #1 Singles, along with Lilly Aguiar for #1 Doubles.
Men’s Lacrosse: The Lions Lacrosse team finished with a winning record consisting of 8 wins. The program is growing and improving each season which should make for an even stronger outcome next year!
Ladies’ Water Polo: The Lady Lions Water Polo team were District Champions and had an impressive 18-5 record this season and made it to the Regional Finals in Orlando.
Men’s Water Polo: The Men’s Water Polo team were District Champions and had an impressive 18-7 record this season and made it to the Regional Semifinals in Orlando.
