13 Feb A Word From Dr. Satterly—February 13, 2025
Dear WA Community,
As we navigate this semester, I am reminded of the importance of staying mission-minded in all that we do—whether in education, leadership, or life. Recently, I reflected on my time as an Army officer and how a foundational military concept, the Operations Order (OPORD), reinforced the significance of clear, unwavering mission focus. Just as the OPORD serves to guide military operations with clarity and precision, so too must we, as Christian educators and parents, ensure that our mission remains central to the work of shaping and discipling the next generation.
In a recent article, I explore how this principle applies directly to Christian education. The key takeaway? Mission defines objectives, outcomes, means, and motives. Without it, organizations lose their way. At Westminster Academy, our mission—to equip students to excel by using their gifts and talents for God’s glory—guides every decision we make, from academic offerings to extracurricular activities and beyond. Staying true to this mission means focusing on excellence, faith formation, and transformational leadership in the lives of our students.
I invite you to read the full article, where I delve into why mission clarity is essential, how distractions can pull us off course, and what it means for Westminster Academy as we continue our work of building a Christ-centered, biblically-based learning community.
Thank you for your continued partnership in this important work. Let us press forward together, unwavering in our shared mission to cultivate the next generation of Christ-followers, critical thinkers, and compassionate contributors.
Blessings,
Dr. Joel Satterly
