20 Mar Band and Orchestra Students Visit New Orleans
Our Band and Orchestra’s trip to New Orleans was amazing! From the vibrant streets of the French Quarter to the soulful sounds of live jazz echoing throughout the city, the experience was unforgettable. We fully immersed ourselves in the rich culture, savoring delicious Creole cuisine and performing at iconic venues that brought our music to life in a new way. The city’s energy inspired us, and the connections we made with the local community and fellow musicians were truly special. This journey was filled with music, memories, and moments we will cherish forever.
After starting each day with a devotional led by our seniors, we explored the World War II Museum, Jackson Square, the Jazz Museum, and even the Destrehan Plantation. We performed at a church and an elementary school and had a masterclass with Dr. Jean Montes, the professor and Director of Strings at Loyola University. We also had a steamboat jazz cruise, saw a Civil Rights museum, and visited the Cabildo and Presbytere. While the French Market and Congo Square were highlights of our trip, we topped it off with visits to the Audubon Aquarium and the New Orleans Botanical Garden.
Our trip was an unforgettable experience that we’ll carry with us forever. The city’s energy, rich history, and incredible music scene gave us a new perspective on our craft. Every moment felt like magic! We bonded as a band, embraced the culture, and made memories we’ll never forget. New Orleans didn’t just inspire our music—it became a part of it.
