The Upper School Student Council led the efforts to collect food and donations for the people who were impacted by Hurricane Ian. WA students and families answered the call and collected over 3,500 items. Along with donations, several students also joined with Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church to serve those in Ft. Myers devasted by Hurricane Ian. Students helped distribute the donations, served meals, and cleaned homes damaged by the storm. Traditions live on at WA. This year’s Homecoming Court was presented at today’s assembly. Students nominated by their peers make up the members of the court. Seniors shared their testimony and fun facts, after which students voted for Homecoming King and Queen. Holding true to tradition, the school will present the court again during halftime at tomorrow night’s homecoming game, and a king and queen will be crowned. For the third consecutive year, we celebrated 100% giving participation to the Annual Fund from our faculty, staff, and school board in August. Building on the example set by our faculty and staff, we will launch our Annual Fund Drive on October 21, and aim to reach 50% parent participation by the 50th day of school on Thursday, October 27. Because of a generous $25,000 matching gift, every dollar will be doubled up to that amount, beginning today through our Annual Fund Drive. During the week of September 19, students in grades six and up went to Vero Beach for their Spiritual Retreats. During this time, they worshiped together and heard from WA alumnus Will Buschmann ’12, the Student Ministries Director at Rio Vista Church, who talked about the importance of their relationship with God and how to keep it strong. Later in the day, activities began that fostered team building with other students and teachers, like kayaking, bike riding, basketball, cupcake decorating, and paintballing. The Homecoming Game is tomorrow night at the west campus Athletic Complex, located at 3701 NW 44 Street in Lauderdale Lakes. The Lions Varsity Football team will take on the University School Sharks! Admission is $5 (cash only) for adults, and students are free. Arrive early for pre-game food and festivities at 6:00 p.m. There will be a Cub Zone for kids presented by Collision Care Xpress.
