We were honored to welcome Dr. Alveda King to our campus last week. Dr. King is the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She is an author, speaker, and activist with a passion for the pro-life cause. Dr. King serves as a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Faith & Culture and is the Chair of the Center for the American Dream at America First Policy Institute. Upper school students heard from renowned author and speaker Tony Reinke in chapel. He addressed technology, cell phones, social media, and their impact on our lives. Tony Reinke is an author, non-profit journalist, and senior teacher for Desiring God—an international ministry with 14,000+ free resources and 3.5 million+ monthly users started by John Piper. Tony’s current work centers on how we best flourish in the tech age saturated by innovation, media, and enough on-demand video to fill our eyes for a hundred lifetimes. On January 27, High School students spent the day volunteering in the community for Service Project Day. Each grade served at a different local non-profit organization. Students in 9th grade attended The Fruitful Field, where they worked in the community garden and helped to provide fresh produce to underserved families in the community, and at Feeding South Florida, where they packed 10,000 pounds of food. Students in 10th grade served for Heart2Heart Outreach, where they were split between two care center facilities impacting 40 senior citizens. As we begin the second half of the school year, we would like to share an update regarding school leadership. Effective as of January 1, Dr. Ron Farrar has been promoted to the position of Assistant Headmaster in addition to his role as Upper School Principal.
